Idol Review: Top 10 Boys
Feb. 27th, 2008 10:34 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
WOW. What a difference a week and two less whiny teenagers makes! EVERYBODY did better than last week (except Michael Johns haha). If your name is David, then you OWNED. I was really entertained and impressed last night by the guys. I just hope the girls keep it up tonight.
Anyway, on to the rank.
10. Luke Menard - Killer Queen (Queen)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESkVvIl_brI
Comments: Holy hot mess. The great Freddie, God rest his soul, definitely turned over in his grave after this one. Luke reminds me of Ace Young: really pretty to look at, totally shitty voice. Actually if I'm remembering correctly Ace had that song during the medley on the results of Queen week during his season - and he actually didn't do half bad with it. This was better than last week but still bad. Although I do agree that you can't really criticize a Queen performance for being "too theatrical". I mean come on. The point here is that I'm glad Luke's lack of airtime will work against him. If they had showed his audition and kept up with him in Hollywood, he would have a strong fanbase by now that would keep him in because he's oh so hot. There are other, more talented hotties for me to look at, so buh bye Luke.
9. Jason Yeager - Long Train Running (The Doobie Brothers)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYzdfmp3VuE
Comments: Really fascinating about all the instruments you play, WHY HAVEN'T YOU BROUGHT ANY OUT YET? I get that he wants to be really comfortable, but he needs to get on with that fast if he wants to save himself. I'm pretty sure it's too late though. The performance is just hideous, to use a Simon Cowell word, the dancing the big smiling, and that thing at the end? WTF? Vocally, it's ok. Just ok. And tonight was a night when a lot of people were excellent.
8. Danny Noriega - Superstar (The Carpenters)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3rpKYvaiyw
Comments: Oh Danny, I love you. I want you to be my little gay friend who goes shopping with me and helps style my hair. This was way better than last week but still kind of meh. I've heard Danny do way better. Fortunately I think his personality is going to keep him in, which is good because he needs to be in the Top 12.
7. Robbie Carrico - Hot Blooded (Foreigner)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2AELxlmd3M
Comments: This too was an improvement on last week but you know, overall, he doesn't really do it for me. He's kinda the inferior version of Bo Bice. He's just average to me and I can't see him in the Top 12. It won't be this week but next week it's pretty guarenteed that he's a goner.
6. Michael Johns - Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o0Uj1-3Mmw
Comments: Yeesh Aussie boy what happened? This was rough for him. Definite pitch problems and issues trying to hit those high notes. I dunno, I lost some of the Michael love this week. He really doesn't seem like he's that interesting of a person haha.
5. Jason Castro - I Just Wanna Be Your Everything (BeeGees)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVTdvoG0xGQ
Comments: So I didn't even realize that it was the BeeGees until he got to the chorus. That impressed me. Or maybe it's just that I don't know the song that well. This was good but he's honestly not that great of a vocalist. Great performer, not a great vocalist. I think if you take that guitar away, he's in trouble. Granted, if you took John Mayer's guitar away, he'd be in trouble too, but John Mayer is also aware of the fact that he would never do well on American Idol LOL. Fortunately for Jason, he can use it every week if he wants to, although I think people may start criticizing him if he does. Somebody commented on the AI comm I post on that Jason seems to have lost some brain cells somewhere along the way... I'm TELLING you people, copious pot usage haha. He doesn't seem that smart. Oh well, we can't all be "word nerds" ;)
4. Chikezie - I Believe To My Soul (Donny Hathaway)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDIBrfXtAHA
Comments: Chikezie's attitude doesn't do it for me, but he's got a really good voice. This was really good, spot on performance, it was the same vibe I got from him at his audition. VAST improvement from last week. I still don't really think he has a spot locked in the Top 12 though. I think the fanbase is lacking.
3. David Cook - All Right Now (Bad Company)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gRx85IiEQs
Comments: YOU. IN MY PANTS. NOW. Holy shizazzzzz!!! OMG ok. FIRST we'll talk about the performance. 600x better than last week. Guitar = holy crap. He can play that shizzzzz! I freakin lost it at the solo. This was totally awesome. Really interesting that he's a lefty. Lovely Les Paul although I prefer the sexy Strats myself ;) His comment to Simon was.. I don't think he intended to be rude, I honestly don't. I think he was just trying to say, well good thing America gets to decide. I don't think it will hurt him. He reminds me a lot of Daughtry in his personality and performance.. although he's WAY hotter than Chris haha. The Daughtry similarity may hurt him insofar as WINNING the competition, but I think he could still have a career after this. And Simon can STFU about the fact that he's a "word nerd" not being interesting. Paula was right: women LOVE smart men. Seriously his crossword puzzles are so much hotter to me than Robbie drag racing or Michael playing tennis.
2. David Hernandez - Papa Was A Rolling Stone (The Temptations)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc-_SXg7QtY
Comments: He is absolutely the definition of dark horse. He is flawless. He knows exactly what he is doing up there. And he can sing like HELL. This was awesome but it comes as no surprise to me, since he's BEEN awesome since we heard him in Hollywood. I'm glad that he's finally getting his props and I can't wait to see what he does in the Top 12. I worry if he has enough fans, but he's got an underground, growing fanbase very similar to Elliott Yamin's. So I think he's good.
1. David Archuleta - Imagine (John Lennon)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWmUlKfgUXM
Comments: There was really no question that this would be the top performance of the night, as it was the top performance of the season so far. This was incredible. It sounded nothing like John Lennon, in a good way. Just, wow. There's really nothing to say about it, other than that. I worry though, when people peak this early in the season. Because from now on every performance is going to be compared to that, and it's going to be hard for him to top that. And the screaming girls WTF? I'm sorry but I've NEVER seen a reaction to a contestant like that this early in the game. I seriously think they hired people. Or I read on
expatiates journal that some girl and her class got to go to the taping of the show? So I guess that explains it a bit more. Anyway, excellent job. Just hope it doesn't come back to haunt him.
Going Home?: Luke and Jason Y
Girls tonight. I've got their pics so look for that soon. Here's hoping that they do as awesomely as the boys. :)

Going Home?: Luke and Jason Y
Girls tonight. I've got their pics so look for that soon. Here's hoping that they do as awesomely as the boys. :)

Date: 2008-02-27 05:44 pm (UTC)I hope the girls do good tonight. I had a dream about them last night and Kady sucked which made me sad. Hopefully the opposite will be true tonight.

Date: 2008-02-28 03:44 am (UTC)For the boys:
10. Jason Y – Not good. The song didn’t have a lot of notes, it didn’t show off his voice at all. Poor guy was trying so hard not to cry when the judges were talking to him. The dancing was also, super awkward. And I went to Harvard parties – I know awkward dancing!
9. Luke – I really like the song, and it’s hard not to let that affect how I feel, but still, I think he was much better than last week, and he showed a little more personality. I doubt he’ll make it to the top 12, though
8. Jason C – It was good, but he did seem very nervous. He needs to lose the guitar, and not be so afraid to use his voice. I hope he makes it to next week and really opens up.
7. Danny – He has pretty hair, I’ll give him that. And ya know what, he has a pretty voice too. Heh…he’s just too funny with his little ‘tude. I like him.
6. Robbie – I thought he was pretty good! Simon did too. Randy was getting too caught up in the whole “you’re not really a rocker, dawg” thing, I felt bad for the guy. He seems like he’s genuinely having fun up there, and maybe his personality is just to be a chill and relaxed rocker, rather than screaming into the mic like Amanda O.
5. Michael – I’ll admit it, he’s just so cuuuute! And that accent, drool. His performance was not quite as kick-ass as last week’s, but it was still very good.
4. Chikezie – What a fun performance. I almost forgot I was watching a competition, and thought I was just watching something great. He totally owned that song.
3. David C. – Ooooh, a lefty guitar! Another really great performance. And Paula’s right – women like smart guys. I thought his video was quite endearing.
2. David H – Wow, what a change of pace for him. That was awesome. It was a really risky song, and he totally pulled it off. Loved the look, too.
1. David A – It really was just incredible. Great song, great interpretation. I’m usually one to go for the underdog rather than an obvious frontrunner, but damn, this kid is good. He manages to combine the sweetness of his youth with a maturity that he pulls from somewhere.
Con't in next comment.

Date: 2008-02-28 03:44 am (UTC)10. Amanda – I do love her spunk, and I love the song. Her performance was just not very good at all. The verses were bad, just bad. I agree with Randy – there was too much melody. Which can be, um, a problem in a singing competition. I know they’re trying to push her because she’s all rock and punk, but can she really sing? Also, she looked like Cruella Deville.
9. Alexandrea – What is she wearing???? A vest and boy shorts? She sounded like she was straining for the high notes. It was a weird interpretation of the song. I didn’t like it.
8. Ramiele – Not great. Just, not great. The song was barely recognizable, and totally just didn’t work. Also, she totally seems like a ditz, or maybe a character out of Mean Girls.
7. Kady – Wow, what a weird song. I have no idea what it’s supposed to sound like – she could’ve been hitting the wrong notes, or maybe that’s just the song. It was….interesting. I’m not really sure whether I like it or not. I agree with Simon, she needs to bring her personality to the stage.
6. Syesha – she looks very comfortable up there, I think she lost it a little bit in the middle there, but got it back. It was OK. She seemed to be concentrating more on playing to the camera than singing, though.
5. KLC – it was OK. Kinda boring and monotonous song. She has good stage presence though
4. Asia’h – There were some bad notes, but generally a lot of heart. I can’t help but like her.
3. Carly – Why does she sometimes have the Irish accent, and sometimes not? Her voice is good, but she just seems kind of fake, like everything she does is kind of put on. Also, do they not have BRAS in Ireland or something?
2. Alaina – I don’t like my food to touch either! I actually really liked her performance. I at least can remember her apart from the other blondes now. She's the one I like the best.
1. Brooke – I love the song. I think it suited her well, and playing an instrument wins points for me. Great job. She seems cute and genuine, and not a “seasoned pro”, which is kind of refreshing.
So, I don't know much about all the Idol politicking, but I think that Luke and Jason Y should go home for the boys, and Amanda and Alexandrea for the girls. Although, I have to say, why does it have to be broken by gender? What if there are just legitimately more good guys than girls, as seems to be the case!
